I've been seeing a lot of really cool birds + behavior out on Marsh Island Trail (doing a survey here for my project).
I was super excited to run into a male and female Wood Duck last week. Here are some photos of these beautiful birds.
The male was really protective of his mate. If she wandered more than 5-10 feet, he would call for her. If she didn't come back immediately, he would nip at her when she returned. They are a smaller duck. Here is a comparison with Mallard.
Today I ran into a mother mallard and her 8 cute ducklings!
